Consent

Medical treatment can be dangerous or invasive, but it can also be unpleasant and intrusive. Every adult patient of sound mind always has the right to decide whether a certain procedure should go ahead or not. This is because the patient, as a human being, has the right to decide what happens to them and their body. As a result, informed consent must always be obtained before any medical treatment begins. Informed consent means that you were told about the risks and consequences of the procedure before you were asked to make a decision about whether you wanted to go ahead with it. A simple 'yes', or a signature on a form, is not necessarily enough. Medical treatment that goes ahead without informed consent is illegal. Talk to us if you think that your treatment went ahead without your consent.
