"Good news and bad news": incorrect diagnosis of cancer

Kevin Finneran of Michelmores' clinical negligence team represented Mr B who had been attending hospital for approximately 2 years after being referred by his GP with haematuria (blood in the urine).   This had been monitored, observed and tested and he had undergone regular ultrasounds. Unfortunately the clinicians treating Mr B, in the words of the expert urologist instructed by Kevin Finneran, acted "like rabbits caught in headlights". They determined that Mr B had cancer in one of his kidneys and proceeded to undertake an operation to remove what they believed to be his cancerous kidney.
