Introduction

Many potential clients worry about the cost of a clinical negligence claim or other legal assistance. Clinical negligence actions tend to be extremely expensive, and very few people can afford to pay for one out of their own pocket. Fortunately, however, there are a number of ways to secure funding from a third party.

If you are on a low income (or if the claim relates to treatment that has been provided to a child), you will probably be eligible for Public Funding ("Legal Aid"). This is explained in more detail here.

Alternatively,  it may be possible to have your claim funded under a "No Win, No Fee" agreement. This is explained in more detail here.

Finally, you may have some form of insurance against legal expenses: you should check your home insurance, which may provide a certain level of cover. If you are a member of a trade union, you may find that they are willing to provide assistance.  More information on alternative sources of funding..
