Alternatives to Litigation: Public Inquiries

How Can Michelmores Help?

The Michelmores clinical negligence department has lots of experience of Public Inquiries, largely as a result of our extensive involvement in the Bristol Royal Infirmary Inquiry.  Laurence Vick was instructed as joint lead solicitor to the Bristol Heart Children Action Group (BHCAG): a group of more than 300 families whose children had lost their lives or been seriously damaged following heart surgery in Bristol.  The BHCAG had first come together to campaign for a Public Inquiry and, having achieved that aim, the group went on to represent the interests of its members throughout the Inquiry itself.  There is more detail about our involvement in the Bristol Inquiry on our Bristol Heart Scandal page.

If you are thinking about campaigning for a Public Inquiry to investigate healthcare in which you have been involved, then we are very happy to provide informal advice about your options.  As explained above, it will be a pretty exceptional "scandal" that gives rise to a full Public Inquiry but, if you have had the misfortune to suffer under such circumstances, we will gladly talk to you about how you can best work towards your goal, and provide any support we can.  We will also be very happy to make use of our experience in Public Inquiries in representing your group during any Inquiry that is achieved.
