Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales
Different bodies and procedures operate in Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. We do not have the space to describe these in detail, here, but you will, hopefully, be able to use the following as a starting point from which you can find detailed information.
Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland, Patient Advocacy is undertaken by the Health and Social Services Councils (HSSCs). There are four regional HSSCs. Full contact details are given in the table at the foot of this page.
Scotland
In Scotland, responsibility for Patient Advocacy is assumed by the 16 Local Health Councils. Full contact details are given in the table at the foot of this page.
Wales
In Wales, Community Health Councils have not been abolished, and they retain the responsibility for Patient Advocacy. There are 20 Welsh CHCs. Full contact details are given in the table at the foot of this page.
