Medical negligence news

Have you or someone you know paid for medical treatment overseas?

If so, a national study would like to hear from you about your experiences.

Michelmores' head of clinical negligence, Laurence Vick, is a member of the advisory group of a nationally-funded project which is investigating the experience of UK patients who have travelled abroad for medical treatment.

Of course, many people experience no problems in their treatment. But whatever your experience, good or bad, what you have to tell the research team could be important.

How did you find the experience? Did it all go smoothly? What persuaded you to make the decision? Was it worth the money? Are you pleased with the results? Did you have any serious problems as a result? What would you have changed about it if you could do so?

Everything you can pass on to the research team about your experience will help others who may choose the same course, whether it was for weight loss or bariatric surgery, dental services, cosmetic surgery, hip or joint replacements, sports injury treatment, ophthalmic surgery, fertility treatment or anything else.

Learning of your experience will inform how such treatment abroad might impact on policy. Your views are important to the research and could be vital in helping to put together an overall picture of the treatment offered.

Your anonymity and confidentiality will be assured at all times.

This is an important piece of research which will be of real value in assessing future treatment of UK patients, and you can help.

Dr Daniel Horsfall at the University of York is project manager for the study. Please email him direct at:

The research is funded by the National Institute for Health Research.
